What is CBT / REBT?
Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT) is a branch of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) based on Stoic Philosophy.
The key understanding of REBT is that whilst we can’t always control the things that happen in our lives, we can, with practice, change how we respond to them to help us achieve our goals and live happier and healthier lives.
We have far more influence than we think over our emotional states, and the key to this is looking more deeply at the beliefs we often unknowingly bring to our lives. Beliefs that we can’t cope, or that we are not good enough, or that things are hopeless. REBT looks first at these beliefs, and then at the behaviours that we play out in our lives because of them.
Through a process of understanding these patterns and challenging ourselves in a deliberate and progressive way, we can change these reflexive responses, achieve our goals and transform our emotional lives.
